The Walker School seeks to enroll a diverse student body, including families of varying socio-economic backgrounds. We understand that cost can be a significant factor when considering your school home. That is why it is important to find the best fit for your child and your family.

We make every effort to foster an inclusive community, reflective of the backgrounds and lived experiences of our students and families, working to ensure that cost is not a barrier to access. We are committed to a financial assistance program that makes a Walker education available to qualified applicants.

We are proud to support 31% of our students through our financial assistance budget and are committed to working very hard with every family to try to make a Walker education possible. Awards range from 5% to 50% of tuition for Primary and Lower School and 5% to 90% of tuition for Middle and Upper School. All financial aid is need-based. We do not offer any merit scholarships.

FAQ

What are Walker’s Financial Assistance Guiding Principles?

Walker’s admission committees have no knowledge of applicants’ financial situation. We consider your child’s application without regard for financial assistance. A separate financial assistance committee reviews the needs of those who are admitted and request assistance. You will receive your acceptance letter and financial assistance decision separately but on the same day if your financial assistance application is complete at the time of acceptance.

  • Financial assistance is available in Grades PK3-Grade 12. The maximum award granted in Grades PK3-Grade 5 is 50 percent of the yearly tuition. The maximum award for Grades 6-12 is 90 percent.
  •  Completing the financial assistance application in a timely manner is important because funds are limited.
  • The Walker School carefully guards the confidentiality of financial assistance decisions. Only members of the financial assistance committee are aware of your financial assistance status, and your child will never know if they received an award, unless you choose to tell them.
  • Families must complete the financial assistance application process annually. Typically, if your financial status has not changed, your award will be similar year to year.
  • If you think you may need financial assistance to attend Walker, we would like to hear from you.

If you have questions regarding the financial assistance application process, please contact Enrollment and Financial Aid Manager Patti Logan at financialaid@thewalkerschool.org or by calling her at 678-581-6891.

Who is eligible for financial assistance?

In keeping with the NAIS Principles of Good Practice for Financial Aid, the school considers tuition the responsibility of both the custodial and non-custodial parents (regardless of legal settlements) who are divorced, separated, or never married. Accordingly, both parents must complete a Financial Assistance Application and provide the required supporting documents. In cases where applications are completed by non-married parents, information is kept separate and confidential and will never be shared by the school with the other parent.

In exceptional cases, where one parent cannot comply, the custodial parent should submit our Statement of Explanation Form. Lack of information from either parent may prevent the family from receiving financial assistance.

If my family receives financial assistance, does that mean I will receive it in future years as well?

Financial assistance awards are made for one year. Parents must complete a financial assistance application each year in accordance with the application schedule outlined. Unless there is a significant change in financial circumstances, the school makes every effort to ensure the level of aid from year to year remains similar.

Financial assistance information is confidential and is not shared. To ensure the best possible experience for all families, recipients also are required to keep financial assistance awards confidential.

If I do not qualify for financial assistance, may I apply later?

Yes. We realize families’ circumstances can change.

Does Walker offer any scholarships?

As a member of and in accordance with the guidelines outlined by the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), Walker does not provide merit-based scholarships to students.

Does Walker have a need-based program for Latin American / Hispanic scholars?

The Walker School has secured funds specific to students of Latin American or Hispanic background as part of our overall financial assistance budget. Any student with a Latin American or Hispanic heritage who applies for financial assistance will be considered for these funds.

How can I participate in Georgia GOAL to help Walker families in need of financial assistance?

The Georgia Private School Tax Credit Program allows Georgia residents and C-Corporations to redirect a portion of their Georgia tax liability to a Student Scholarship Organization in support of the financial assistance program at a private school of their choice such as The Walker School. Participants receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on their state income taxes and a charitable deduction on their federal return.

To learn more about how you can participate, go to the Georgia GOAL website or contact Michele Austin in Walker's Development Office.

What additional expenses should I anticipate?

Tuition covers the majority of your child’s Walker experience, including lunch and all school supplies in PK3-Grade 5. However, there may be times when additional fees are required, which may include books and supplies in Grades 6-12, fine arts trips, international travel, and extra athletic apparel (not including uniforms). Please reach out to our admission team with any questions you have.
