An ongoing goal for The Walker School has been to encourage and provide opportunities for students to become active in community service and service learning. Students in all divisions are encouraged to participate in community service activities.
As a whole school, we have collected supplies and assembled convoy kits for soldiers in the Middle East, collected canned food for the local Salvation Army, provided Christmas for children through the Salvation Army Angel program, and participated in Toys for Tots. Each division also participates in community service activities by conducting fund drives, collecting goods, or providing hands on service.
The Student Services Organization (SSO) is an Upper School Club that leads many of Walker’s community service projects. Students are elected to the board and are tasked with engaging the Walker community in service projects.

| The Walker Upper School has built a relationship with Fair Oaks Elementary School, a public Elementary School in the Marietta community. For three years, the students on Walker’s Fair Oaks Board have organized drives and donations for the students and their families. They volunteer at Fair Oaks events like field day, STEM Day and fun runs. They have also hosted car washes and fundraisers on campus to raise money for the school. |
| Pajama Pants Challenge |
| All divisions participate in the Pajama Pants Challenge to benefit the Center for Children and Young Adults (CCYA) in February. Students bring in a dollar and are allowed to wear pajama pants for the day. |
| Red Cross Blood Drive |
| The Student Services Organization hosts a blood drive several times a year through the American Red Cross. Parents, faculty, staff and any student 17 years or older (16 with parent permission) donate in a blood drive center set up in Muthiah. |
| Lower School Day of Giving |
| The Lower School Day of Giving is an annual event in which students in each grade level complete a different service project. Some examples of past service projects include making homemade dog treats for the dogs at Mostly Mutts, creating breakfast bags for MUST Ministries, providing care packages for the patients of Georgia Cancer Specialists to use while they receive treatments, hosting book drives for Marietta City Schools; campus cleanup and more! |
| Angel Tree |
| The Student Services Organization and second-grade students and teachers lead the Salvation Army Angel Tree at Walker every year. This year, the Walker community pitched in to sponsor more than 130 angels. |
| Canned Food Drive |
| In November, the Walker community participates in a school-wide canned food drive to benefit the Salvation Army food pantry. Last year, students collected 8,544 cans. |
| Relay for Life |
| This year will be the 20th anniversary of Walker’s participation in Relay for Life! The Walker Community brings a large team to the local event and collects monetary donations through fundraisers on campus. |
| First Friday |
| On the first Friday of the school year, Upper School students spend the day building community. They volunteer at local organizations like Books for Africa, cleaning up Kennesaw Mountain trails, making care packages for senior citizens and more. |
| Camellia Place |
| Students in all divisions provide cards for the residents of Camellia Place Memory Care and Assisted Living for Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day and other holidays. |
